School Districts Across North Texas Close Due To Surge In COVID-19 Cases And Teacher Shortages

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Nearly two dozen Independent School Districts across North Texas are closing their doors due to a rise in COVID cases and shortages of available teachers and staff.

While the largest school districts in North Texas — Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Garland and Plano — will have classes as usual, the surge in COVID cases in Texas has resulted in deep cleanings and lights out for many schools.

The closures will give an extended weekend to some students, while others will be away from campus for more than a week.

Here is the latest list of class cancellations:

  • Avalon ISD will be closed Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Blooming Grove ISD will be closed Thursday, January 13, and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Boyd ISD will be closed January 13 through Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Campbell ISD will be closed Thursday, January 13 through Friday, January 21. Classes will resume Monday, January 24.
  • Eustace ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. School will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Fairfield ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. School will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Greenville ISD has canceled classes at Carver Elementary on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Italy ISD will be closed Friday, January 14. School will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Itasca ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Keene ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Kemp ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Kerens ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Krum ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Malakoff ISD will be closed Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Mansfield ISD is closing six elementary schools: Janet Brockett, Louise Cabaniss, Judy Miller, Martha Reid, Tarver Rendon, and Roberta Tipps. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Maypearl ISD will be closed Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Palmer ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Pilot Point ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Poolville ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Monday, January 17.
  • Red Oak ISD will be closed Friday, January 14 for a staff workday and also on Monday, January 17 for the MLK Jr. Holiday.
  • Rio Vista ISD canceled all classes for the week of January 10. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
  • Venus ISD will be closed Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 18.
