NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's basketball team fell to Texas 69-58 Wednesday in the first of the Sooners' two rivalry matchups this week.

"I thought we competed really hard, fought like crazy," said OU head coach Sherri Coale. "Give them credit. They made the plays they needed to make down the stretch but I'm really proud of our kids. They just continue to fight, and scratch and claw and find a way."

OU (6-8, 3-6 Big 12) was narrowly out-shot by the Longhorns (13-5, 6-3 Big 12) as the Sooners finished with a .460 clip (23-for-50) to Texas' .475 (28-for-59).

Madi Williams led the Sooners in scoring as she drained 17 points. The junior collected five rebounds and three steals while dishing two assists. Two more players joined Williams in double figures as
Taylor Robertson had 14 and Gabby Gregory scored 11.

Texas' Charli Collier led all players with 32 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double. Celeste Taylor chipped in 12 points and Audrey Warren added 10 for the Longhorns.

The Sooners trailed Texas 39-35 points after a tight first half. Williams scored 10 of her 17 points on 5-for-7 shooting in the first half. The OU defense held Texas scoreless over the last 3:33 of the second period but trailed by four as the teams headed to the locker room.

The Sooners took the lead at the start of the third quarter as Robertson hit a 3-pointer to make it 40-39 OU. Texas answered with a basket, but the Sooners would tie things at 41-all on a pair of Gregory free throws. The Longhorns used a 6-0 run to close out the third period up 53-49. OU shot just 23.1% (3-for-13) from the floor in the fourth quarter and Texas opened up a 7-1 run to end the game.
