NCAA Football: CFP National Championship-Ohio State vs Alabama Gary Cosby-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Longhorns landed a commitment from former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Keilan Robinson on Sunday, a decision confirmed by 247Sports only minutes after Robinson posted a picture wearing burnt orange on the Forty Acres.

The 5’9, 190-pounder from Washington, D.C. pledged to the Crimson Tide in 2018 as a consensus four-star prospect ranked as the No. 244 player nationally and the No. 15 running back, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Robinson signed as a member of the 2019 recruiting class. During his original recruitment, Robinson held 23 other offers and took an official visit to USC.

As a freshman, Robinson carried the ball 39 times for 254 yards, an average of 6.5 yards per carry with two touchdowns, scored against Western Carolina and New Mexico State. The touchdown against the Aggies was a 74-yarder to cap the scoring for the Crimson Tide in what became a 62-10 victory.

Robinson opted out of the 2020 season, then returned to the Alabama program in January before entering the NCAA transfer portal in early June. It didn’t take him long to find his new home with his former offensive coordinator.

Ranked as an all-purpose back by Rivals out of high school, Robinson can serve as a change-of-pace back for Texas in a running back room that also includes sophomore Bijan Robinson, junior Roschon Johnson, senior Daniel Young, and super senior Gabriel Watson. The hope is that he can add another explosive, dynamic runner to Stan Drayton’s position group.

Robinson is considered a junior with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
